How Amor Fati was created: the search for the perfect cotton panty

For many years, I struggled to find nice cotton underwear. I either ended up with the classic "granny panties," which are large and not particularly attractive, or the alternative was a thong that, honestly, wasn't comfortable. This frustrated me immensely, as I really dislike wearing synthetic materials. Yet, that's all that was available in stores.

I dreamed of underwear that was high-cut on the thighs, narrow at the back, and fit like a bikini, but in a good, breathable fabric that was comfortable to wear.

I searched everywhere, both online and abroad, and the more I talked to other women, the clearer it became that my frustration was not unique. Pretty, flattering, and high-quality cotton underwear was almost impossible to find.

So I started researching what it would cost to make them myself.

I contacted countless manufacturers. Many turned me down immediately because small production volumes weren't interesting to them. I spoke with people in Brazil and Pakistan and several factories in Istanbul. And then, suddenly, I was introduced to Ayse (pictured) and her team at theetiket.co, and everything changed.

Ayse has many years in the industry and strong contacts in both Italy and Istanbul. She managed to find a small atelier willing to produce a small batch for me. What impressed me most was how genuinely she wanted to understand what I was looking for. She took her time, cared about every detail, and was genuinely committed to my satisfaction. I couldn't have asked for a more professional collaborator.

But, believe me, it was a long road. It took time to find the right shape, and it took time before she and the pattern maker truly understood my vision. I wanted underwear that was just as flattering and had a fit like a bikini, but in a fabric that was healthy and comfortable. Over six months, I was sent several samples that I (a little embarrassingly) had to reject one by one. "No, it's not quite what I had in mind."

Nevertheless, Ayse was always patient and understanding. Now I understand better why many manufacturers don't want to work with beginners like me 😂 But through all the conversations and meetings, I've learned so much. There are surprisingly many technical details to delve into, but it's also incredibly exciting. As they say: You can’t skip the process.

And now, one year after I started this project, we have finally landed on a product I am truly proud of. The fit is exactly as I dreamed, the material is soft and breathable, and the quality is absolutely perfect. And not least: I can vouch for where and how it is produced.

This is just the first step, but for me, it feels like a major breakthrough. I look forward to sharing the rest of the journey with you all, and I greatly appreciate all the support and input along the way.
